This time its about how recruiters (or anyone in fact) can connect with new people on LinkedIn by using the group feature. Remember though, that the facility to contact users through groups is switch on by default. However, if an individual has had a lot of spam contact, he can switch this off at any given time. Simple Spring Cleaning Checklist
Simple Spring Cleaning Checklist According to my calendar, spring sprung last month. I wish someone would tell the weather in Chicago that. It snowed here last week. Seriously, the hashtag, #SummersCanceled is gaining popularity here. Anyway, with spring comes the age-old tradition of spring cleaning. Did you know messes actually cause stress? Clutter distracts us. It causes over stimulation and makes us feel anxious, guilty, and less creative. Along with cleaning out and organizing your room, apartment, or house, try spring cleaning with some small steps to help relieve your stress. Computer: No better place to start the spring cleaning than right at your fingertips. Clean off and organize you desktop, and get a cleaner workspace. Go through your folders and get rid of the photos and files you donât need. Yes, the kitten pictures are funny, but they are taking up valuable space and slowing your computer down. Workspace: A clean, organized area to work makes easier getting things done easier, and it makes your task list less daunting. Clear up all the random papers on your desk. Filing papers away where they belong. Hanging folders, small shelves, and other small organizing tools can make a big impact. Purse or bag: Letâs lighten your load, literally. Throw away all the receipts and wrappers in your purse. Collect all of the lose change jingling around in your bag. You might even find stuff youâve been looking for or something you didnât even know was in your bag. I usually find jewelry Iâve ditched after work. Car: Get everything you donât need out of your car, and throw away all of those Micky Dâs to go bags. Extra weight in your car negatively affects your gas mileage. I just took out four chairs from the trunk of my car from a bonfire from a few weeks ago and found three beach towels. I wondered how long theyâve been in there. You may not have started spring with clean spaces, but now you can get a fresh spring start with a few simple steps. Go Green: Did you know you can clean with natural ingredients? Vinegar can be used to clean, brighten, and deodorize all sorts of things!

Words That Can Destroy Your Credibility
Words That Can Destroy Your Credibility Do you listen to yourself when you speak â" as in your choice of words? For most of us, itâs not that easy to talk and listen to ourselves at the same time. But whether weâre paying attention or not, our words are landing on other people whenever we say something. And it pays to have a sense for how your words are coming across. When it comes to choosing words wisely, Iâve come across this article that identifies one word that destroys your credibility. According to Eric Holtzclaw, that word is âactuallyâ. In my experience, there are other words and phrases that can give people the wrong impression about you as well. Here are some to watch for: âLikeâ When used improperly and often, âlikeâ makes you sound less intelligent, and can be distracting. Do you want others to be distracted by counting the number of times you say âlikeâ? âTo be honest, â¦.â This is another version of âactuallyâ. I remember one of my senior team members (an Oxford graduate) using this phrase often until I asked him, âDoes that mean youâre not being honest the rest of the time when you donât say that?â âButâ¦â When you start a sentence with âbutâ in response to someone elseâs comment, it makes you sound argumentative. If thatâs your intention, then go for it. Otherwise, âandâ is a better conversation creator. â⦠but I donât know â¦â Making a statement and stating your opinion, but then trailing off at the end with those âcanât be sureâ phrases when you actually do know makes you sound hesitant and undermines your credibility. Why not let your statement stand on its own instead of weakening it with those added words at the end? âUmâ This and other filler words can come across as unconfident, unsure of yourself, or the sign of a slow or fuzzy thinker. Punctuating your thinking time with silence serves you better. In my experience, listening to your own words and choosing them well can have a positive impact on the image you convey to others. Donât let a few thoughtless (as in done without thinking) words and phrases bring you down! So, what credibility destroying words or phrases do you recommend avoiding?

Leading A Team of One
Leading A Team of One We all lead a team of one (sometimes more). Being a leader doesnt mean that you are directing/managing/guiding others. It means having an awareness and practicing the competencies that make you the best person you can possibly be. Ive lifted/listed this tremendous list from NYS Work Force and Success: Leadership and Management Competencies (And if you click on the competency, it will take you to a list of skills. This can be great for generating ideas for your resume and developing accomplishment stories!) Leadership Management Competencies Accountability Empowering Others Managing Risk Analytical Thinking Entrepreneurship Negotiating Building Trust Establishing Focus Organizational Communications Change Management Exercising Self-Control/Being Resilient Partnering/Networking Coaching Facilitation Political Skill Communicating in Writing Fiscal Management Project Management Communicating Orally Flexibility Providing Direction Conflict Management Getting Results Providing Motivational Support Continual Learning Influencing Others Solving Problems Continual Improvement Initiative Systems Thinking Customer Focus Innovation Technical Credibility Decision Making Interpersonal Skills Technology Use/Management Delegation Listening Thinking Strategically Developing Others Maintaining Personal Credibility/Meeting Ethical Standards Valuing and Leveraging Diversity Emotional Intelligence Managing Performance Visioning Which of these is NOT important to your personal success? How would you rate yourself in these areas? Are there any that you think you should improve upon? As I re-read Seth Godins Linchpin he talks about changing our perspective of work. Godin says we should no longer be cogs in the system. Not being a cog, to me, means developing these leadership competencies. What do you think?
